She Talks To Fish by Brian Hester and Barbara Beam is the coming-of-age story of a young Black Woman whose obsession with fly fishing in the mountains of North Carolina leads her to confront stereotypes, bigotry, weather, and even death with immeasurable perseverance. Pelican Island Audubon held a book signing and reception for the authors that featured a live painting demonstration by Brian Hester at Audubon House on November 15, 2024.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Brian Hester, a native of Boone, NC, grew up developing his craft and love of fly-fishing. He found the Blue Ridge Mountains to be a limitless sanctuary that cultivated his interest in art and acted as a channel for him to embrace his observations and surroundings. Brian has been a visual arts teacher for 29 years. He has also taught hundreds of people to love fly-fishing almost as much as he does. He is also a professional artist and sculptor.
Barbara Beam grew up in Charlotte, NC and is a graduate of Appalachian State University. She is an English teacher and has written books, scripts, and dozens of songs.
