Please Read The Field Trip Policies

All field trips are led by Pelican Island Audubon Society volunteers. Unless otherwise indicated, trips are free and open to the public. All participants must be respectful towards the environment and their fellow birders.

Our goal is to offer a series of exciting nature visits to good birding locations that will get people outdoors while keeping one another safe and healthy. Birding offers a wonderful means of escaping the indoors, exercising, making new friends, and learning about our environment. It is said that only by learning to appreciate our surroundings will we be willing to fight to protect them.

In the past, we have encouraged carpooling to trip locations to conserve energy. If participants are fully vaccinated, drivers and passengers may decide whether they are comfortable carpooling. Note: carpooling is up to the driver’s discretion; driver may ask that masks be worn inside the vehicle. Please stay home if you feel poorly or have not tested for Covid-19 recently.

Participants must sign up for trips on our website. Please be courteous and inform the office or field-trip leader, if you cancel, and whether you will join at the meeting location or at the field-trip site. Please come 10 minutes before start time to get organized, sign in, and greet everyone. Make every effort to be on time. To avoid inconveniencing all other participants, leaders will begin at the specified start time, explain about the area, and leave the meeting location, not waiting for latecomers.

If you have signed up for a trip but must cancel, please notify Bob Montanaro at piaudubon@yahoo.com or at 772-567-3520. Early cancellation allows others on the waiting list to take your place.
