Join Emily Surmont from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as she shares the buzz about lagoon-friendly landscaping, and explains how promoting blooms in your lawn can discourage blooms in the lagoon! Bee ready for an engaging presentation from the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves focused on lawn grass, seagrass, bees and butterflies!
Emily Surmont is an Environmental Specialist with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. She has been with the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves for over 3 years working on projects focused on shoreline restoration, horseshoe crab biology, shorebird and wading bird monitoring, education and outreach, and much more. She was born and raised in Florida and has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Broward College in south Florida. Most of her work focuses on estuarine ecology, conservation, and community outreach. When she’s not working, Emily enjoys time outdoors surfing, snorkeling, sailing, hiking, and camping.
